🎭 Synopsis

Elisabeth Sparkle, a former Hollywood star played by Demi Moore, has to face tough Hollywood realities where the spotlight dims as she gets older. In a bid to enhance her youth while standing in front of her unwelcome reality, Sparkle undergoes an experimental and illegal treatment that gives her something she desperately wishes for. Sparkle’s treatment ends up granting her a Sue (Margaret Qualley) a smart and seductive younger version of Sparkle, only that Sue is far more dangerous.

As Sue and Elisabeth attempt to co habit their existence, they both are forced to switch bodies every week with each of them ready to do whatever it takes to stay in control of their shared body. The definition of creator and creature starts to blur as both of them surrender to the battle. The price that Sparkle has to pay for her ambition and vanity will expose her to shocking and primal monsters. At the deep end, the real question lies in how do define yourself to have a youthful look forever.

‘The Substance’ explores humanity obsession, self duality and illustrates the unnaceptable lengths to which people will go to in order to stop the clock from ticking. The clip reticently restricts and saturates society’s perceptions of beauty alongside aging while placing this film into a category that can only be comprehended from an intense point of view.

The film received five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Coralie Fargeat), and Best Actress (Demi Moore), which is a testament to its acclaim. In addition, it has done commercially well by earning over $77 million globally.
