Deep Rising

Deep Rising

Movie Info:

Deep Rising (1998) intricately weaves action, horror, and science fiction together in equal measure. Directed by Stephen Sommers, whose work on The Mummy is widely known, Deep Rising fights off of the terror of the deep ocean on a board of a luxury cruise liner where a group of mercenaries combine their dark humor with creature horror to offer sky-high adventure.

The trailer further builds on the foundation of capturing a bold hijacking mission as a group of merciless mercenaries storm into a highly advanced ship expecting a simple payment. But the terrifying vacuum the ship shrouds hints something much worse is waiting. Crazed screaming, firearm bursts, tentacle punches, and everything in the middle work to create a bone-riddling, heart pumping preview of the absolute chaos embedded in this film. It is made very clear, this is beyond just a poorly executed heist – this is a war against the unimaginable terror concealed within the sea.

William Finnegan, the captain of the smuggling boat, who’s a wisecracking hero that reluctantly takes the role, is played by Treat Williams. Famke Janssen takes on the role of Trillian St. James, a resourceful thief forced to fight for survival. Anthony Heald plays the role of that corrupt billionaire behind the doomed cruise ship, Simon Canton. That extremely ruthless leader of the mercenaries Hanover is portrayed by Wes Studi.

Kevin J. O’Connor as Joey Pantucci – Finnegan’S mechanic cum comic relief in the film.

📖 Synopsis

In an audacious act of piracy, a squad of mercenaries takes control of an opulent cruise ship, with the intention of ransacking it. Unfortunately, once they reach the liner, the vessel is suspiciously vacant. The unjust murder of each one of the passengers delivers a chilling concept — a gigantic squid like creature has overrun the ship. All remaining passengers, and the mercenaries themselves, must learn how to work together if they have a hope of escaping the all-consuming terror that resides in the ocean.

Deep Rising is an overflowing bundle of monstrous phenomena along with a painstakingly high number of action scenes, violent murders, and other world actions that will make any ocean seem far worse than it already is.
