Produced by ZEE5 Originals and directed by Ashwin Shetty, Badnaam Gali is a touching Indian comedy-drama film released in 2019. This perky, socially conscious film addresses the issue of social surrogacy in India through laughter and warmth as well as unconventional friendship.
🌟 Plot Summary:
Nayonika “Nayan” Ganguly, portrayed by Patralekha, is a headstrong, vibrant woman who lives her life on her own terms. What captures the attention of the public gaze is her decision to become a surrogate mother. Being from a traditional Delhi neighborhood, her boldness attracts lingering gazes and gossip from her nosy neighbors. What they don’t know is that she had a pretty good reason to transform herself.
Meanwhile Randeep Singh Sodhi (Divyenndu), a careless small town guy, shifts into the same neighborhood. Cautious of Nayan because of neighborhood rumors, Randeep learns that behind the ruthless persona lies a gentle and fierce woman. Deepening friendship enables the film to examine feminine themes of acceptance and breaking of stereotypes along with society’s preconceived expectations and bonds formed in the most unusual of spaces.
