The Package
Movie Info:
🎥 Synopsis
The Package follows the misadventures of a group of teenage friends as they transform a comedic blunder into an outrageous, high-stakes race against time in the wilderness.
The challenge of this coming-of-age film hits within the first 5 minutes; where during a camping trip, a group of five teenagers face a straight out of pocket incident as one of them, Jeremy (Eduardo Franco), a little too drunk and a little too excited, ends up accidently slicing off his own penis with a butterfly knife when trying to show off.
The rest of his friends: Donnie (Luke Spencer Roberts), Sean (Daniel Doheni), Becky (Geraldine Viswanathan), Sarah (Sadie Calvano) are left coming to terms with the ‘airlifting’ situation, which Jeremy seems a little too unfazed w- excitingly ignoring the fact that while he is being air-lifted to the hospital, his friends have conveniently remembered to leave behind ‘the package’ back at base camp. This sets off an embarrasing journey for Jeremy’s friends across rugged terrains, wild animals and self-sabotaging humour to PR- cough retrieve Jeremy’s package, before time runs out.

The heart and soul of the package: Jeremy is played by Eduardo Franco who depicts the unfortunate victim of the accident.Luke Spencer Roberts as Donnie – Jeremy’s actions unexpectedly impact the life of his best friend.
Sadie Calvano as Sarah – Becky’s best friend who portrays a more easygoing side of the character dynamic.
🖋️ Themes and Tone
The Package includes several heartwarming moments, albeit heavily laced with crude humor. Other undertones cover:
Friendship through chaos: A head-scratching paradox of “how far would you actually go to save your friend and a body part?”
Coming-of-age awkwardness: The subjective age of consent and everything else entwined within embarrassment and sex.
Responsibility and teamwork: Always needing to depend on one another to accomplish what seems impossible.
Teen sexuality: Tackled head-on and unapologetically, and without cruelty.
The sticking point is an unpredictable blend of sweet and earnest apply to lash out with irreverent humor.
🎞️ Style and Comedy
Jake Szymanski, best identified with Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, adds immediate visual flair to the film along with keeping the pace quick. Impacting the body humor is situational slapstick. While shocking, its overdosing on absurdity keeps it from stepping to the line of cruelty.
Without grace, the film is crude, reveling in slapstick portions and genital ridicule, but oddly the characters are enough to make viewers sympathize with the unnatural premise.
⭐ Reception
The Package landed a mix of positive and negative reviews, although the combination of shocking humor and emotional moments received praise.
Critics and audiences highlighted:
Strengths:
Geraldine Viswanathan’s standout comedic performance highlights.
Comedic timing paired with relentless absurdism
Madness accompanied by sincerity
Weaknesses:
Those put off by raw humor and body comedy will not fare well.
Some one-note gags overextended their welcome.
Its niche nature aside, it gained a cult following among fans of raunchy teen comedies who uh… loved Superbad, American Pie, and The To Do List.
📺 Final Thoughts
The Package is outrageous, bold, and surprisingly touching; it’s a film that uses shock value and friendship to tell a powerful story. It serves as a downside guilty-pleasure for all the fans of ridiculous laughter-filled comedies that don’t necessarily take themselves too seriously – but has a little heart.
