Movie Info:

🧠 Plot Summary

Written and directed by the funny Judd Apatow, Knocked Up is a romantic comedy that is touching and funny at the same time. The movie tells the story of a one-night stand that goes haywire for both parties involved—Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), a the successful entertainment journalist, and Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), a growth-deficient, carefree, and aimless middle-aged man.

Alison her sister Debbie (Leslie Mann), a hair, and makeup artist went on a celebratory outing for an on-air position at E! News. At a club, she meets Ben. A bit of miscommunication (partial without using a condom) and a couple of drinks result in an unwanted baby.

For the first time in her life, I’m sure she is horrified. For Alison, the thought of spending the rest of her life helping raise a child with a man she doesn’t know is terrifying—especially when that man is a professional movie watcher, heavy pot smoker, and a recluse sharing a house with a group of unmotivated slobs and decked out in a hoodie. On the other side, the dude is equally gobsmacked, and attempts to embrace the father role in an immature and child-like manner.

While the couple goes through the prenatal routine, there is a lot of value struggling within the relationship boundaries, especially over goals, career, work, and societal expectations. In a sense, the couple is trying to find themselves when they are not aiming to just exist but planning to embrace life with a child.

Through the exploration of an attempted harmonious co-habitation of two individuals as they prepare themselves to be parents of a child, the viewer also able to soak in the surrounding humour.
