Insidious (2010), directed by James Wan, along with Leigh Whannell’s writing brings us a piece of horror art that spine chills us with its supernatural essence. Whannell and Wan crafted this film knowing how to keep their viewers glued to their seats, and in doing so, giving us a different type of terror unlike any other where one runs psychological horror instead of violence.
🌟 Plot Summary
We follow the Lambert family which contains Patrick Wilson as Josh, Rose Byrne as Renai, and their three children that got placed into a new home. The story gets more horrifying as their dad inherits his mother’s home which leads to Perkins reveal that they eerily move one step closer to a perfect family with the addition of a son, Ty Simpkins as Dalton. Life turns gruesome as Simpkins character falls into an unexplainable deep coma after a minimal injury.
With the unveiling of ferocious paranormal activities disturbing the household, the family comes to know that rather than the home, it’s the sole of the boy that’s possessed. Josh and Renai’s children aren’t the only ones in house but a dark age old encapsulated adversary that exists above a bodiless shell. Holding hostage of Curtis’s spirit in a dark world named The Further wherein evil resides waiting to conquer. Aided by belonging to Josephine Chusiasm, Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier gives them a leg to stand by Edwin reclaiming Curtis soul before it’s too late.

One of the best films of the 2010s is Insidious, which is a masterpiece thanks to James Wan’s direction and eerie atmosphere. The movie has some of the most iconic jump scares of all time. The demon reveal is red faced and will put nightmares into the minds of people, which is the hallmark of the film. The mythos surrounding astral projection and The Further is incredibly creepy and adds an interesting twist to the overused haunted house archetype.
The success of Insidious led to a franchise that explores more into Elise’s background and the terrifying world that stalks the Lamberts. If you are someone who enjoys emotionally gripping suspenseful horror, this movie is for you.
