Analyzing The Film

There is always a depth of underlying themes like power relations, domestic violence, and excessive sensuous fulfillment in “Bound”. The film goes into the more profound intricacies of sadomasochism and not just in the context of sexuality, but also in the work and family context. Michelle’s story is that of a woman who is fundamentally looking for self-identity and autonomy which puts into perspective the issues one can face when yielding control without having a proper understanding of the situation.

Critical Review

The film “Bound” did not do well with critics, especially when it was first released. It is said that the film lacked a proper script, character development, or any insight into the world of BDSM. Many considered the film made purely to capitalize on the success of “Fifty Shades of Grey” and had no attempt at putting in creativity and substance. While many commented that the actress Charisma Carpenter gave a great performance, it was not capable of changing the poor essence of the film.
